Yesterday, I watched a lecture on music from Evelyn Glennie, a world renowned deaf percussionist. In it, she talks about listening to what is NOT in the music she is reading in front of her. Rather than simply playing back that which is in front of her, she separates the technician from the interpreter.

It’s difficult to even begin to review Gregg “Girl Talk” Gillis’s follow up to Night Ripper. While preaching through a MySpace account with a simple “I Am Not A DJ”, Feed The Animals reinforces the notion that Girl Talk is not modestly regurgitating the last 40 years of music into our ears. Gregg is now toeing the line on so many different facets. This proverbial line is bordering on legality, composition and music theory, art, DJing, remixing, society, and (of course) partying. On the internet, we often call that last sentence “nuthugging”. However, let me explain…

Today is Thursday. That’s one day away from the official start of the first weekend in June. And thing have started with a loud bang so far. The other day Ed Banger released Volume 3 of it’s “Best of…” of series. If you are still one of the 4 people on the planet that don’t talk about Justice or how Busy P used to manage Daft Punk, you should probably check it out. The “Stress” Justice mix is probably better than the original. Why are almost all of Justice’s Live mixes better than the originals? Just sayin’. New drinking game. Every time a DJ plays a song from Ed Rec Volume 3 in the month of June, take a shot.

Hot news out of New York yesterday as Tim from Long Island sends me this text message:

I think he’s on to something. I have a day off on Saturday and what better way to celebrate Steven Tyler’s recent exit from rehab than pairing him up with someone for the 18-24 yr old market. Might help his career. Oh, and in case you haven’t heard, it was rehab for a “foot injury”. Yeah… sure, Steve. And I shit guitars.

Kurt Cobain’s ashes are missing. That news somehow made me remember when Fred Durst claimed Puddle of Mudd was the next Nirvana. Where were you when “She Hates Me” dropped?
