Divine Machine is what happens when the love of analog meets the obsession of horror. And it never hurts to have one of the most talented tattoo artists in the country, Cory Cudney, taking his passion of said genre and plowing it through Buffalo, NY. One listen of any of their recordings draws so many parallels to Goblin or any other soundtracks of your typical 70s / 80s horror films. It’s one thing to try and recreate aura of the era, but it’s another to make it enjoyable, which Divine Machine does very well. You may remember another act that is currently dabbles in horror samples… a small French outfit named Justice. Pushing any sampling aside, Divine Machine could easily be mistaken for the real deal sounds of anything from Italian to early 80s American pulp horror. Remaining relatively low key, Divine Machine is quite an impressive sound.
In this era of electronic music, will the phrase “guitar pedal” be synonymous with bicycles and DIY bicycle gangs or will the world find a way to pick up physical instruments when music recycles itself back to the 90s again? Either way, these new pedals will be finding their way on my bicycle this summer.
Hey! Lupe Fiasco’s got a new single out. Justice is remixing his latest. That’s probably going to disable the internet once it hits. Try this one for now.
So out of boredom today, I decided to make a new mix. Much to my surprise, it only took me a few hours. So if you’re heading to a party tonight and you need some music, you might consider this tracklist:
SSO - Tonight’s The Night
Cam’ron / Ludacris - Hey Ma / Move Bitch (NSFW Edit)
Flo Rida - Low (Danced Killed N Moved)
MSTRKRFT - Bounce
Busta Rhymes - Dangerous (Night Facilities Remix) + 2 Live Crew Edit
Crookers - Purple Lens Game (Bloody Beetroots Remix) + Dr. Octagon Edit
Justice - Stress (Auto Remix)
Today is Thursday. That’s one day away from the official start of the first weekend in June. And thing have started with a loud bang so far. The other day Ed Banger released Volume 3 of it’s “Best of…” of series. If you are still one of the 4 people on the planet that don’t talk about Justice or how Busy P used to manage Daft Punk, you should probably check it out. The “Stress” Justice mix is probably better than the original. Why are almost all of Justice’s Live mixes better than the originals? Just sayin’. New drinking game. Every time a DJ plays a song from Ed Rec Volume 3 in the month of June, take a shot.
Hot news out of New York yesterday as Tim from Long Island sends me this text message:
“Hey love in an elevator mash up with love in this club.”
I think he’s on to something. I have a day off on Saturday and what better way to celebrate Steven Tyler’s recent exit from rehab than pairing him up with someone for the 18-24 yr old market. Might help his career. Oh, and in case you haven’t heard, it was rehab for a “foot injury”. Yeah… sure, Steve. And I shit guitars.
Kurt Cobain’s ashes are missing. That news somehow made me remember when Fred Durst claimed Puddle of Mudd was the next Nirvana. Where were you when “She Hates Me” dropped?
Now and then I forget everything I’ve ever read about EQing. Such was the case when I was trying to rip off this:
I think information sharing is so taboo on the blogosphere when it comes to audio production so since I got the most awesome email on EQing on a mailing list at the exact time I needed it, I figure I’ll dish out the most in depth website for Ableton Live. It costs money but worth every penny when you are in a pinch. Better hurry over and learn up at MusicSoftwareTraining.com before Girl Talk’s new album drops in a couple weeks.
