What Planet Is Kanye West On?

This year, for my birthday, I watched the VMAs. Every year, MTV becomes the relative you barely see anymore and gives you a present to remind you just how out of touch they are with your life. I never payed attention to these Jonas boys but if there is one word I want to use when describing my musical taste, it’s definitely “safety”. The night concluded with a performance live via the end of the world (apparently) from Kanye West debuting his new single.

Is there anyone more inconsistent than Kanye West? Don’t criticize because the man will literally fight you. Sure, he gives a pretty bizarre performance at the VMAs but you know what? I actually liked it. Kudos, Kanye.

You see, I really want to like Kanye West. I really do. The album he produced for Common was some of Common’s best work in my opinion. I think Kanye West is a uniter. He is the key to getting you closer to your “regular” friends; an act you can both sit down and enjoy. But man, he BLEW IT with his last album. In the war between him and 50 Cent, neither won. Both albums were horrendous.

But here we go again with a new single. It’s not another “Stronger” but you know I actually kind of liked that song when it first came out. Kanye is the king of putting out great singles that annoy the hell out of you a month after the fact. Anyhoo, now we have “Love Lockdown”. It makes you wonder where he’s going with all of this. After downloading 5 different leaks of it, I buckled and bought the single from iTunes and wouldn’t you know it, the production is still sloppy and gritty as hell. But you know what? Maybe that’s how I like my Kanye.

Its Been Tough, 50…

curtis-crying Its Been Tough, 50...

The world’s most famous skeptic of technology, 50 Cent, just can’t catch a break. First, the dude’s trying to burn his girlfriend’s family, and then, in the ultimate slap in the face to “Fiddy”, Steve Jobs tells the world that no one is tired of the iPhone. He even had the nerve to give it GPS. Pfff…

Nothin’ disses a rapper like telling him everyone in the world loves stalking people on the internet… with a phone. ¡Viva technology!

So I tried out Wii Fit. Who would have thought an electronic doormat would never make me want to go for an actual run in the real world ever again. Why put up with the outdoors or have to face the inevitable exchange of looks to the people you pass by when you can stand in front of your television and follow your virtual trainer’s yoga-toned ass cheeks into the Madonna chiseled skin suit you’ve been dying for. Whatever. I’m buying one.

And finally, Lil Wayne’s new album dropped. And it’s just as good as the last half-album, half-shit he put out before. Dude has to start charging $6.99 for this stuff. But the songs that bang are worth it. The other half are forgettable. Listen to a few tracks yourself and make your own call. Remember when 50 Cent dissed Lil Wayne and Weezy responded by talking about how awesome Vitamin Water is?

Shit I’m tired of technology too, Curtis. These days we have to put up with making our friends feel insignificant because they aren’t in our Top 24. The only legit news is on blogs (riiiight?). We never have to leave the house anymore to work out. We keep tabs on all our friends by stalking their social network pages. And I make music using not-real instruments. Damn, Fiddy. Ayo…
